Building on the discussions held in Bridge47’s recent webinar series on the future of SDG4.7, our CEO, Rilli Lappalainen, has contributed a guest article to the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD).

The article, Why We Need to Start the Post‑2030 SDG4.7 Dialogue Now, reflects on why education for global citizenship, sustainability, human rights, peace, and cultural diversity cannot be treated as a marginal concern in the years ahead. It draws from the shared insights, questions, and tensions that surfaced during the Bridge47 webinars, situating them within the broader global debate on what comes after Agenda2030.

As the global context grows more fragmented and uncertain, the article argues that SDG4.7 remains one of the few internationally agreed spaces that speaks directly to values, democratic participation, and how societies learn to live together. It calls for opening inclusive, long‑term dialogue now, before post‑2030 decisions are consolidated, grounded in the experiences of educators, civil society, and learning communities across contexts.
